Richard G. Jones, Jr

Introduction

Richard G. Jones, Jr. is a board member of The Southside Alliance and an academic leader in the field of communication studies.

Professional & Community Background

Rich was born and raised in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. He earned his Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Denver in 2009 and went on to serve as a professor at Eastern Illinois University, where he held a tenure-track position in the School of Communication and Journalism. He is the author of Communication in the Real World, an award-winning textbook, and also founded and operated a communication consulting company in St. Louis, MO, from 2020 to 2022. In 2023, he relocated to Huntington to join Marshall University as Department Chair and Professor of Communication Studies.

Rich and his partner, Joe, a Marshall University staff member, live in Enslow Park and have embraced Huntington’s welcoming community. His expertise in communication, storytelling, and organizational development strengthens The Alliance’s outreach and visibility.
